PAR encourages our volunteers to be prepared to help others when disaster strikes. Here are some upcoming training opportunities in our area. They are provided to the community through the Red Cross and the Harvest Volunteer Fire Department. If you’re interested, please call the appropriate contact person. (1) Red Cross Disaster Training  Pick your interest: Damage Assessment, Bulk Distribution, Collaborating Essentials, and more All classes at 1101 Washington Street, Huntsville Various dates and times Call 256-801-3802 to sign up or ask questions   (2) Stop the Bleed Learn the basics. What can ordinary people do in extraordinary situations? Look at the difference you made in 2017! Instead of sitting on a couch and watching disasters on TV day after day, our volunteers put their hands to work. As we thank God for our blessings this week, we include YOU among them. You helped others in many ways in 2017. Whether you . . . traveled to hurricane disaster areas, cut trees in a local neighborhood all Saturday, prayed for victims and responders, attended a monthly meeting, donated money to disaster relief, played in our golf tournament, shared PAR’s mission with others, worked at the new warehouse, took a chain saw training class, . . . we are grateful for you. We’d love to thank you in person. If you haven’t already signed up for our potluck Christmas dinner on December 1, please sign up now. (There is no regular monthly meeting in December.) If you do business with any of sponsor organizations, please tell them thanks for supporting PAR this year. They each contributed money or goods for our annual fundraising golf tournament in 2017. We are forming a team to go to Vidor, Texas, for hurricane cleanup. We would leave Sunday, October 1, and return Friday, October 6, working with 1st Baptist Church in Vidor. Because of storm damage in Holly Pond last night, a team from PAR will leave today, Sep 1, at 1:00 from the PAR Warehouse on 3401 Holmes Avenue NW, Huntsville. If you are available, please meet Ronald Jennings and Tim NeSmith there. It seems a couple of houses were hit by a tornado and there is significant damage. Your help will make a difference....
